Veronica Mars – The Movie

Last week I was so excited to see all the buzz about the Veronica Mars television series being turned into a movie. It’s been talked about for years but never eventuated. This time, they decided to fund it independently by using crowdfunding. So far, they’ve raised $4 million out of the $5 million needed.

I absolutely loved Veronica Mars, I’ve got all the DVD’s and can recite each episode off by heart. It was smart, clever, unique, and gripping. But above all, the girl at the centre of it all was definitely not your cookie cutter stereotype. Veronica was a little blonde girl, but instead of just being a character to act as the love interest, she was stronger than anyone she came up against.

She was fearless, ready to take on any challenge, but she cared too. Her way of dealing with things was to dish out justice, not fall in a heap and wonder why it always had to happen to them. And she made more enemies than friends.

I love Veronica Mars because of that, because she wasn’t afraid to be strong but could make mistakes too. She didn’t need to be liked by everyone, she didn’t need to have someone protect her, she could handle her own.

As a writer, I can only hope I can create characters like Veronica Mars. I want my females to be able to handle their own, but not lose sight of being who they are. I want them to be sassy and cheeky without being crude or demeaning. I want them to kick butt during the day and then snuggle up to their boyfriends at night (but not feel like they have to). When Rob Thomas created Veronica, he got absolutely everything right. I bow down to Mr Thomas.

My top five favourite things about Veronica Mars (in no particular order):

1. Keith Mars and his relationship with his daughter. Who wouldn’t want a dad like that?

2. Backup. He was the best friend a girl could have. Best name for a dog ever.

3. When Logan turned all mushy over Veronica. Everyone loves a reformed bad boy.

4. That look on everyone’s face when Veronica got the best of them and they realised it. Classic.

5. Weavil and his love/hate relationship with Veronica. They had such a soft spot for each other, it just made you feel all warm and gooey every time one of them needed something illegal done.

Woah! I’m really digging the template/theme of this site. It’s simple,
yet effective. A lot of times it’s difficult to get that “perfect balance” between usability and visual appeal. I must say you’ve done a great job with this.
Also, the blog loads extremely quick for me on Chrome.
    Outstanding Blog!
