Happy Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day is this Sunday, one of the most worthy holidays on the calendar.

My mum is the best one in the world. I know, I know, you probably all think that. But I swear it’s really true for my mum. She’s kind, caring, generous, loving, and has the biggest heart of anyone I know. She always puts other people first and never herself. If I could be half the woman she is, I would be doing well.

My mum is my biggest fan. No matter what I do, what I write, what other people think, she’s got my back. She’s the one to stand up and inspire me to keep going even when it’s a ridiculous pursuit. She believes in me more than I do myself and I can’t even put into words how much that means to me.

Last year I didn’t know what to get her for Mother’s Day. I wanted to do something special to show her how much I appreciated all she did for me. To go with her present, I wrote her a poem. It made her cry, which I wasn’t sure was a good thing at first. But it turned out she liked it, so here it is below.

It was a cold Thursday night

When you bought me into this world

The nurses wrapped me tight

And the doc said you had a girl.

You cradled me in your arms

And made a promise to me

That I would come to no harm

And only love I would see.

You taught me to how to talk

So I would always have my say

Then you showed me to walk

So I would always find my way.

When school started we were apart

It was just a mere six hours

Yet I knew it broke your heart

But nothing would hurt a bond like ours.

The next few years hurried by

And I grew into a young woman

You always taught me how to fly

Even when I thought I couldn’t.

We have travelled the globe

Just me and just you

Upon foreign ground we strode

And flew over oceans blue.

Adventures were never far away

We have seen and done it all

Remember when I said it would be okay

Even though the bus was about to fall?

So  Mum I’m telling you now

You are so very special to me

Store cards couldn’t say it somehow

They were like sugar left out of tea.

Happy Mother’s Day to you Mum

You will always be my best friend

Together we have so much fun

And I pray it will never end.

Wow that is amazing! You’re such a clever writer and now I see why! Your mum rocks. P.S…how will you top that this year? :-)
